237 Sangana - a star for Annwn Park
We began the pursuit of breeding quality purebred Lipizzaner horses in 2000. It was through the careful studying of bloodlines in Australia that I became aware of which lines were stronger in certain areas and what would come of particular matings. Well worth the research, as it gave me insight into what particular lines in Australia would produce certain traits along with what lines seemed to be more pre-potent over others - but most importantly, which matings would bring us what we believe to be correct quality purebred Lipizzaner horses.
We have a strong focus on breeding purebred Lipizzaner horses with type, temperament, the trademark Lipizzaner movement, substance and some height.
Our first breeding stallion was the outstanding 100 Favory Neapolitano I, an exceptional filly producer. After breeding with him over a few seasons it was time to retire him from stud duties. He had many offspring and it is important, in such a small genetic pool, to not dilute the lines by over-breeding from one horse. His offspring were simply outstanding. I believe the lovely mare 237 Sagana displays his abilities and quality as a breeding stallion extremely well. After much careful thought the time came to cull most of our broodmare mare band retaining only a select couple of mares that we felt would breed on what we are after in a Purebred Lipizzaner.
We kept our best mares in 237 Sagana (100 Favory Neapolitano I x 110 Szuzi) pictured and 114 Bonita (Pluto Plutona 14 imp Piber x Conversano XX-17 imp Hungary). In 2007 we also purchased our future Stud Stallion to cross back over young mares by 100 Favory Neapolitano’s. This is 257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’ (226 Favory Naussica imp France x 227 Pluto XXIX-23 imp Hungary). ‘Merlin’ absolutely epitomises Lipizzaner type. He is the grandson of the great Piber stallion 370 Pluto Rovigo and is faultless in conformation, presence, charisma, movement, temperament and of course has that amazing Lipizzaner trainability.
The next focus was to secure at least two more mares similar in type to the 15.2 ½ hh 237 Sagana. 103 Lili (29 Pluto Neapolitano III x Incitato IX-10 imp Hungary) came to us in January 2009. She is classically baroque in type, highly correct, exudes breed type and she can really move. I am of the strong belief that - In order to breed uniform quality foals, you need uniform quality mares. Quality mares are the foundation to any breeding program and the quality of breeding mares (and their bloodlines) which includes their temperament can make or break a breeding program. We actually purchased 257 Favory Pallavicina ‘Merlin’ based on his dam line. She is an outstanding mare in every way incl. her breeding and temperament and was part of a Champion Harness Team in The Netherlands.
I had also been desperate to secure a filly combining the breeding of 114 Bonita and 100 Favory Neapolitano I. We lost this cross when we lost our very first Lipizzaner mare, 202 Bonnie (100 Favory Neapolitano I x 114 Bonita), and then 114 Bonita could no longer carry a foal to term which was yet another blow, as she is perhaps one of the best Lipizzaner mares that has ever been in Australia. This particular cross has excellent type, conformation, temperament, movement and fertility as well as size.
In April 2009 we purchased the superlative purebred filly 279 Monza, a granddaughter of 100 Favory Neapolitano I and 114 Bonita. She is an amazing baroque style filly sired by 224 Conversano Allegra V (imp Slovenia), 2002 Junior European Champion Stallion, who is sired by the top Slovenian stallion 001 Conversano Capriola XIV. 279 Monza is very tall expected to mature 15.3hh. She has wonderful type, super conformation and highly expressive movement as dictated by her outstanding pedigree. 279 Monza is very much like 237 Sagana and 103 Lili, she is related to both of these mares through the Hungarian mare, Neapolitano XIX-2 (dec) and related again to 103 Lili through Pluto Plutona 14 (imp/dec).
Annwn Park Lipizzaner Stud strives to breed top quality Lipizzaner horses to suit a wide range of disciplines. While we may breed the occasional part-bred, our main focus is breeding and preserving quality Purebred Lipizzaner horses for performance. www.annwnpark.com.au

Poseido - Pure Passion (Photo - Sandy Morphett)
At Aquila PRE, we work hard to breed top quality, athletic PRE horses with fantastic temperaments, trainability and exceptional talent for dressage. We have covered our PRE mares with our licensed stallion, Poseido LXXII, and are extremely pleased with the results.
Poseido LXXII, a PRE of 100% Carthusian lines, was imported from Spain in 2006. He was selected after an extensive search as we felt that his athleticism, movement and amazing temperament would be a fantastic benefit to our breeding program. The results speak for themselves with his first foal, Aquila Merlin, being awarded 74.75% in the difficult 2 year old group during this year's ACE Assessment Tour. Merlin has the same powerful, uphill canter and elastic, swinging gaits as his sire.
We are currently negotiating to import frozen semen from some of the world's top (and top performing) PRE horses to cover some of Poseido's progeny from next season, thereby further increasing the performance potential available in Australia.
We are also great fans of Warmbloods, and breed one or two horses per year. In the 2010/2011 season we will be standing the gorgeous Warmblood stallion, The Valedictorian (Lionel x Valuta) on behalf of the Bywater Stud. This horse was the top scoring stallion at the 2010 Trakehner Verband inspection – scoring 8s across the board - and has produced some lovely horses such as AQ Lucy, who will be prepared for the young horse dressage classes in late 2010.
The Aquila stud is situated on the fertile plains of Victoria's lush western district, near Camperdown.
Currently we have PRE youngstock by Poseido LXXII for sale, as well as ACE registered warmbloods by Royal Hit, Weltmeyer and The Valedictorian.

Aurum has a range of youngsters suitable for both Elite and Amateur dressage riders by sires such as Weltmeyer, Brentano II, Regardez Moi, Jive Magic and our own two Regardez Moi stallions, Aurum Rivière d’Or and Aurum Remarquable (sadly deceased). In particular the Amateur rider is well catered for with a number of high quality youngsters with excellent breeding, outstanding movement, great personalities and very reasonable prices.
At the Elite end Aurum has a very special yearling at present. He is Aurum Walter, by Weltmeyer out of Risqué (Regardez Moi/Salute). Walter is a confident, friendly youngster with amazing movement. He is also stunning and black! He will no doubt be a super Grand Prix horse for the future.
There are now a number of young Aurum dressage horses starting to appear on the scene. Aurum Rivière d’Or is now five and training Elementary. He has a terrific mind for the work, absorbs everything asked of him and comes back ready for more!
Aurum Breathless, one of our Brentano II youngsters has been in work for a few months with Brya Law and by all accounts is progressing extremely well. Aurum’s other young Brentano II filly Aurum Brentana deserve a mention too. World Royale after only a few rides
Belcam Stud is proud to be standing two stallions with great dressage talent.
The 16.3 hh three year old black stallion, World Royale is the latest dressage sensation to hit Australian shores. He is sired by World of Dreams, a striking chestnut stallion that competed successfully at International Grand Prix level with Michelle Gibson. World of Dreams is by World Cup I and out of a mare by the influential stallion Cardinal xx who stamped his progeny with a shiny dark coat, pleasant personality and excellent rideability. World Royale’s mother is by the premium stallion Rubin Royal, a powerful moving son of Rohdiamant with Grundstein II and Akzent II on his dam line. World Royale has recently been put under saddle and lived up to the highest of our expectations, displaying high quality engaged and balanced movement with a willingness to always please his rider. 2010 will be his first season at stud.
Cooperit is another stallion with the quality to breed top dressage horses. The 16.2 hand bay, is an extremely attractive stallion with active and expressive paces. His sire Contender has dominated German breeding values for many years and is one of the most sought after stallions in Holstein, standing to a book of 350 mares - in one year he had 700 applications. Cooperit's mother Winett is by Wanderer, a stallion pre-potent in producing jumping talent and horses that are athletic and eager to please as well as international dressage competitors. Cooperit’s progeny are very good types, athletic with fancy movement and are clever pupils. Cooperit sired Elite awarded foals at the 2010 ACE assessment tour.

Fürst Love - a top stallion here in Australia
Bloomfield Farm is situated in the Warragul district in West Gippsland, Victoria and is home to Imported Oldenburger stallions, Royal Hit, San Rubin II, Fürst Love and the Australian bred Fiderstern. Each year we breed around 20 foals, with the aim of providing dressage riders and breeders a variety of top quality future competition horses and breeding stock.
Our broodmare herd includes a variety of quality mares; consistent producers with a good variety in pedigree, type and movement, to cater for the different taste’s of our clients. Within the herd is a small group of Contango II daughters, who are proven breeders of exceptional progeny. Also included are a couple of Capone daughters, one of which was the record priced Auction horse for Belcam International in 2005. Her progeny have proven time and again, the exceptional hereditary qualities of this mare. The variety in mares continues and includes some fantastic bloodlines; Sirocco, Argentinus, Jazz, Dream of Glory, Don Ramiro, Aachimedes, Levantos, Jive Magic, Whisper, Guess and Falkland. We are also breeding foals each year in partnership with Judy Smith and Betty Gove, via embryo transfer from their imported mares, Betty Blue (Brentano II / Weltmeyer), Duchess (De Niro / Regazzoni), and Comtesse (Cordoba / Weltmeyer).
All of our mares are bred to our current resident stallions, Royal Hit, San Rubin II, Fürst Love and in the coming season, also to Fiderstern.
Royal Hit is a 1-C Premium Licensed Oldenburger and has proven his dominance as a Sire through his outstanding progeny. His oldest progeny in Europe are now rising 6 year olds and are proving to be top quality dressage competitors. He has a number of Licensed sons and State Premium daughters. High profile riders in Australia and overseas are buying or breeding Royal Hit progeny, with the aim to reach high levels in Dressage. An emphasis on a trainable temperament, an elastic swinging back, correct confirmation and quality movement - all the requirements of a high level dressage horse - are leading riders to Royal Hit progeny.
Royal Hit now has three foal crops in Australia, (since standing at Bloomfield), and they have continued to delight their breeders / owners. The comments are consistent: super movement, excellent conformation and perfect temperaments. The foals are elastic in their movement with expressive knee and hock action. They are leggy and elegant with great shoulders, length of neck, amazing top lines, and they are extremely confident and trusting. Clients are choosing to rebreed their mares and others have decided to keep their foals as future riding and breeding prospects. Many clients have also taken advantage of the chilled semen for Embryo Transfer, breeding their top imported mares and competition mares without the need to take time away from their training schedule to raise the foal.
In the years to come the positive impact left in Australia by Royal Hit will be evident in both the competition ring and the breeding programs of many of the top studs. He is a true genetic masterpiece, with the ability to reproduce.
San Rubin II is a young Oldenburger Stallion by Sandro Hit and out of a Rubinstein mare. San Rubin II is one of five full siblings, all carrying the amazing rideability traits that Rubinstein is known for and the beautiful type that Sandro Hit consistently produces. His older brother, San Rubin is a Licensed Oldenburger who now stands in USA and was Bundeschampion in 2005. San Rubin II was started under saddle by Robert Goodwin who was blown away with his remarkable attitude and willingness. In 2009 he spent some time with Brett Parbery, who was also highly impressed with the qualities of San Rubin II.
Under saddle he shows three quality gaits, great balance, rhythm, and a willing, trainable nature. His foals have also delighted their breeders/owners and again the comments are consistently applauding the amazing temperaments, the type and the movement.
Fürst Love is an incredible young stallion with an incredible pedigree. He is by Fürst Heinrich (Florestan / Donnerhall) out of a Sandro Hit / Rubinstein / Pik Bube mare. He descends from the famous ‘Love Story’ mare family. A family who has produced countless high level competition horses (dressage and showjumping), along with Licensed Stallions, Premium and Elite Mares. Fürst Love is Oldenburger Licensed and completed his 30 Day Performance Test (as a 2 year old) with outstanding results. Fürst Love is a brilliant type with exceptional movement and an outstanding temperament, all of which were on display during our stallion presentation at our March Auction, where he won many new fans, including Dr Ulf Möller.
The latest addition to our Stallion Barn is Fiderstern, an exceptional young colt with looks and movement to give you goosebumps! He is by Fidertanz and out of our Capone daughter, Charisma (record priced auction horse in the history of Belcam International). A double up of outstanding trainable temperaments has ensured Fiderstern’s wonderful nature. He will be broken in over winter before beginning his first season of stud duties in September. Due to his young age, breeding services will be limited in this first season.

De Niro filly out of a Regazzoni mare at Bradgate Park
This year our breeding program is coming along nicely with our frozen semen progeny. Each year the gene pool improves so much with our female lines and the availability of so many amazing stallions through frozen semen can only enhance the chance of breeders being able to give the dressage rider everything they need in a horse without having to buy overseas.
The 2009/10 breeding season has been very successful with progeny from Don Primero, Fidertanz, Prestige, De Niro, Don Frederico, Brentano 11 and Lord Loxley.
We are having some success this year with our riding horses. Briana Burgess will commence competition with the Rotspon gelding purchased from our stud. We also have a Rotspon gelding in the Hunter Vallley, ridden by Tarsha Hammond who is coming up with great scores and wins. One of our mares also ridden by Tarsha Hammond has been very successful with a lot of wins under her belt.
Our next Dressage Competition at Bradgate Park will be on the 27th June up to Medium Level.

Cloverfern Salisbury (aka 'Kenny')
Cloverfern produced only one foal this year, Cloverfern Salisbury, a colt by APH Spiegel out of an Our Poetic Prince mare. He gained a Premium Foal Award at the ACE assessments and followed this up with an 82.25% at the Trakehner assessments and was awarded Reserve Champion under 2 years. Third place colt, Conjor Solaris, was also by APH Spiegel.
Cloverfern Saskatoon was the top placed Trakehner Sporthorse Yearling filly and Shivas Regal by Spiegel was the top filly foal in this classification. Shivas Regal was awarded champion female under 2 years with Saskatoon reserve champion.
The Trakehner Verband assessor gave Spiegel 91% for rideability and an overall score of 82.16%. And this at the age of 22! The assessor regretted that Spiegel had not been able to be assessed in his younger years.
We expect that the coming breeding season will be the last that we shall stand APH Spiegel at stud. He will only be available on stud. Some frozen semen may be available. In order to aid and encourage the new Australian Trakehner Society, we are offering Spiegel services to Trakehner Society members for $1000 including GST.

Danson Dynamic sired by Donnerblitz out of a Du mare and already a multi championship winner as a 4 year old
Heather Currie is one of Australia’s most successful dressage trainers and competitors, but sadly Heather has been off the scene for the past twelve months with a serious illness. The good news is that Heather is on the mend, and hoping to start riding in the not too distant future, the other good news is that it is still all systems go at the Danson Stables.
Danson Stables is also the home of two outstanding dressage stallions. Rubinstern represents the invaluable ‘R’ line. His sire, Ruiz Soler is a grandson of the great Rubinstein, with two crosses of the legendary Argentinus on his pedigree. Rubinstein is the ultimate modern type of dressage horse: light, agile, like a ballerina.
The other stallion, Donnerblitz was personally selected as a yearling by Heather, at the PSI dressage stables. He combines the blood of the foundation stallion of modern dressage, Donnerhall, along with the strength and athleticism of Landadel. Donnerblitz was ‘blitzing’ them in the dressage ring before Heather took sick, but believe it, they will be back, and better than ever.
The other good news is that Danson has for sale a full range of dressage horses, from weaners to five year olds that are ready to pop on the float and take to the competition. Of course, many of them are by Donnerblitz but there are also progeny sired by Europe’s leading stallions, thanks to frozen semen.
Meanwhile, the Donnerblitz youngsters are starting to come out and star. The oldest are now four year olds. Danson Dynamic was fourth at Dressage with the Stars, and Danson Destiny has scored up to 80% in official dressage.
According to Heather, Donnerblitz’s progeny have their sire’s rideability and trainability, ‘they are very elegant horses, more refined than him, really good types… they will make great dressage partners for all sorts of riders from amateurs to pros.’

DvZ Tres Bien - he can canter too!
DvZ Stud has been breeding Warmblood sport horses for over 20 years and dressage horses specifically.
We are breeding with fourth generation of successive genetics. Most of the mares I use have been bred by me with stallions that were carefully chosen to improve the next generation, whether they be chilled, fresh or frozen.
This has resulted in producing some exciting dressage horses such as DvZ Faroche by the jumping sire VDL Laroche (Concorde x Voltaire). Faroche is a classic example of using jumping blood to get superior paces. Faroche (ridden by Susan Page) was the WA young dressage horse champion three successive years and then continued on with winning the WA State titles at each level at every year of her competition life. Faroche is now in foal to Soprano (Sandro Hit x Contender x Tin Rocco) another dressage stallion with jumping blood.
One to follow is DvZ Fanfare is by Krack C and ridden by Jackie Lancaster at Elementary/Medium level. DvZ Fruehling is the rising star of the moment, ridden by Terrina Fairbrother, she is by Soprano (prelim/novice level).
These three super dressage mares are all out of the same mare DvZ Finesse who is by Barrabadeen Fortune (exp USA as Titan). Finesse’s sons and daughters are very popular and her latest son, a weanling is DvZ Trés Bien by AEA Tuschinsky is the only one still for sale out of this family. He was entered at the inaugural foal show in February under a German judge and scored 7.5/8/8 for his paces. Trés Bien really has the ‘wow’ factor in looks, paces and temperament.
If you are looking for super temperament, look no further then DvZ Mon Amis, so aptly named. She is a rising 3 year old and being educated to saddle at time of writing. She is by the Grand Prix stallion Mayfield Pzazz and out of another Barrabadeen Fortune mare who goes back to Wildfeuer x Rasputin (Ramiro). Mon Amis is a real people horse. Other potential dressage horses for sale are by Cooperit, Speratus, Quasimodo Z and DvZ Infini. All out of well bred Warmblood mares, well handled and reasonably priced.
At DvZ Stud we have found time and again that by combining the dressage and jumping lines we get a horse that is athletic with powerful hindquarters and thus avoiding the ‘slow’ or ‘trailing’ hind leg. Instead, the DvZ horses move with ease, are uphill, powerful and attractive and above all trainable.
All youngsters are for sale and reasonably priced. Contact us today!

Our stallion, GT Jake is by the world’s leading dressage sire Jazz and his mother Argene is by one of Australians most influential imported stallions, Aachen. Breeders have been extremely pleased with Jake's foals, they are stylish with a beautiful length of forearm, light footed movements and a natural uphill tendency. Jake was awarded 9 for walk, 9 for trot and 8.5 for canter at his ACE stallion classification. Jake showed great potential for the competition arena, but sadly a hip injury has retired him from riding. His eldest progeny are rising two year olds and we eagerly await their debut to the dressage arena. Standing alongside Jake are GT Sir Stirling (Stedinger/Contango II) who was 4th in the 4yo class at DJWTS 2010, Klassik Pursuit (Purioso/Consolidate xx) and Don Gold IMP (Donnerhall/Goldlack).

'First Meeting' - Our beautiful mare Hirtenqueen (imp) meets her new colt HB Fürst Henri by Fürst Heinrich
Last year was the ‘EI-recovery’ year on our farm. We had ended the previous year with four fillies stuck in Germany and growing rapidly. Their flights to Oz had been severely disrupted by the EI cloud so we chose to watch them grow up in northern Germany and see how they turned out.
In 2009 we foaled down seven mares. We have been rewarded with six surviving foals who are being weaned as I write this. Two of these foals are by the deceased World Champion Fürst Heinrich and both are stunning colts. One is a replica of his black father and has been sold to WA, while the other is very much his mother’s son and will grow into a stunning colt. The latter colt has the same chiselled elegant head features that made his mother much sought-after at the Vechta Elite foal auction.
Our oldest foal was from the elegant imported mare Fürstin Grande (Han.) by Royal Hit. Regina has now been weaned and is showing impressive paces in the “viereck” when given the opportunity. In the same paddock is Sundowner, the brown Sandro Hit gelding out of our Sirocco mare, HB Santa Ana. Both of these youngsters are going to make exceptional riding-horses. They have the temperament needed to excel and will be moderate in size.
Our two youngest foals this year were both exquisite fillies. The first filly, Swarovski x Larundel Garnet, is a half sister to the dressage performers currently being ridden by Katrina Bolmat. HB Sapphire will be retained as a future performance mare by the stud. Her paddock mate, HB Benita (Benetton Dream x Checkers xx), was the highest placed filly in the 2010 Hanoverian inspection tour. She and Sapphy will get a chance to develop their potential at home and test their dressage potential later.
We have been breeding Warmblood horses in Australia for nearly forty years, using imported frozen semen since 1994. Our focus is on the breeding and production of dressage horses with the temperament, skills and talent to tackle the world stage. Frozen semen, imported primarily from Germany, was the mainstay of this massive improvement process. This offered a dramatic improvement but genetic studies had confirmed the judgement of experienced breeders that the broodmare was responsible for most of the foal’s qualities and attributes. This should be no surprise but it forced us to closely evaluate our whole breeding program.
We began our import program four years ago with the purchase of Fürstin Grande (Fürst Heinrich x Grande) at auction in Austria. She was put in foal to Hotline in his first season and promptly imported to Australia. This year she is in foal to the stunning young Hanoverian stallion Royal Classic.
HB Filigree (Hotline x Fürst Heinrich x Grande) has now been broken-in and is the spitting image of her award-winning father. She has personality to burn and is looking forward to being produced on a bigger stage. She is the first daughter of Hotline in Australia and will impress the most fastidious critic. She will be put in foal in September and then go back into work for another six months before spelling.
Hirtenqueen (Sunny Boy x Rubinstein) will produce an ET foal to His Highness this season. Queenie is about to return to the dressage arena under the guidance of Katrina Bolmat. We hope to see what talent she has for the sport while continuing to ET-flush her occasionally.
This year Rasta produced an impressive black colt by Fürst Heinrich. This beautiful Stedinger/Ramiro mare had been a prize find for us in Clemens von Merveldt’s stables in Vechta. She has now produced two special colts for us with fantastic paces and all the breeding and potential needed for both competition and stud duties. This year she is in foal to Floriscount (Florencio x Donnerhall), winner of his 70-day test with an impressive dressage score, and we are desperately hoping for a filly!
Last summer we returned to Germany to inspect our fillies over there. We have retained two fillies, one Hotline x Donnerhall and the other Herzensdieb x Rotspon. Both are being ridden and currently prepared for the Hanoverian mare test. We expect to get one of them in foal shortly and continue the training of the other. At least one will make the trip to Australia in the next six months while the other may remain in Germany. The choice will be made in July when we will again be returning to Germany to inspect stallions, catch up with breeders, see our mares, attend mare shows and, as always, keep an eye out for another female.
We retain our nucleus of Australian broodmares to complement the imports. Two of these, Gem and Grace (Larundel Gandalf x Lander) have produced a string of quality frozen semen foals. We currently have a Fürst Heinrich and a Fidertanz filly from Grace for sale. The second generation are represented by HB Santa Ana (Sirocco x Aachen) and HB Lorelei (Londonderry x L. Gandalf). Ana is a lovely placid black mare who this year gave us a Sandro Hit colt with a delightful personality. The young black Londonderry mare, Lorelei, will produce her first foal this coming season to Royal Classic. These mares consistently produce fantastic riding horses and their progeny are regularly appearing at such events as DWTS and the Sydney CDI.
We aim to continually upgrade the quality of our broodmares. Our hope is to produce foals whose qualities are indistinguishable from those available from the top German breeders. This year we are expecting foals by Floriscount (1), His Highness (1), Royal Classic (3), and Sandro Hit (1). If you are looking for a quality colt or filly, equal to anything you could find in Europe, give us a ring.

Simba - Sir Donnerhall / Bella Carmina / Belissimo M at 3 weeks
Top broodmares are what we are about -and what has proven worldwide to be the most reliable guarantee for producing horses with the talent, type and temperament to be competitive at international level in all equine disciplines. These thoughts of the importance of mare families in performance horse breeding were echoed by Dr Ulf Möller of PSI, at a talk given recently whilst in Australia.
Purchasing the champion mare SPS Bella Carmina, daughter of the famous Carmina Burana - one of the most important mare families in Germany and bred by the highly successful breeders Frank and Nicole Pistner - has proven this theory correct. To date, she has produced two super colts for our stud, the first, by St Moritz sold at three weeks of age as stallion potential, whilst the second colt by Sir Donnerhall, imported in utero, has recently gained a placing in the Top Ten Hanoverian foals in Australia by Dr Ludwig Christmann, despite the disadvantage of being less than three weeks old, having been born to European time and shown still under quarantine conditions.
A recent addition to the stud’s broodmare band has been the SPA black Londonderry/Akzent 11 mare, Lady de Luxe, imported by Olympian Mary Hanna. Her outstanding type, presence and movement saw her awarded Champion Warmblood Mare or Filly from a strong field at the 2010 Melbourne Summer Royal, and whilst she is currently under saddle, we intend to breed her next season to a top dressage sire.
Our imported Sandro Hit/ Donnerhall black mare Santa Fe also descends directly from an important mare family - that of the famous Wolgarune, a dam line that has produced 25 licensed sons, including His Highness, Donnerprinz, her ¾ brother Sir Sandro, Don Jovi and Australian Olympic horse Crisp. We eagerly await her ET foal by new sire sensation Dancier. Also in foal to Dancier is our much admired Dream of Glory mare Dreamtime. She has an ET foal due by the super DWTS performer Royal Oak 11 as well.
Desperados is a highly successful young sire and dressage horse-news through from Germany is that he has just won the Median Cup qualifier for young GP dressage horses at Hagen with a score of over 75% - 5% ahead of the next horse! We are expecting our first foal by this exciting sire in September from our great producer Chandon. We also look forward to foals by Shiraz Black , Sir Donnerhall and Fürst Love from our Aachen, Don Ramiro and Contucci mares and firmly believe this crop could prove to be the best yet!

PSI's new FN breeding index leader, Grand Prix winner and exceptional breeding stallion, Breitling W and Wolfram Wittig
Recently a client contacted International Horse Breeders and asked for advice on what stallion to breed to. She had a Sir Donnerhall filly, out of a Rosentau/Weltruhm mare and was considering her options. Her options were many. The “L” line? Or “A”, “F”, or “B” bloodline? What about the “E” bloodline?
It is generally considered now that some jumping genes infused into a good dressage breeding bloodline is advantageous. It gives athleticism, and develops strength of the hindquarters and produces ‘engagement’ of the hindlegs and hocks which is as important for jumping as it is for dressage.
One of the most important services that the German State Stud in Celle provides is to keep preserved a large range of bloodlines available to breeders. Traditionally they stand different stallions every year at their various stations so that local breeders can take advantage of different stallions each year with which to base their breeding programs. Each mare requires a specific stallion in order to improve upon herself. The aim of breeders is to breed to ‘type’ and to breed ‘temperament’ and to breed for ‘performance’. A large range of bloodlines becomes important when breeding many different mares and their progeny over the long term. With frozen semen the list of bloodlines available is never limited. There is a choice of which stallions and which bloodlines should be used to keep ‘type’, ‘temperament’ and increase ‘performance’. The Hanoverian Yearbook is a very useful resource to access because it quickly gives breeders information of how each stallion improves and where and by how much in his progeny.
At times it will take two generations or more to achieve a breeder’s aim. Where one stallion can improve in performance, another stallion can improve in type and temperament. Type is very important. Our horses cannot get too heavy or too light. They have to possess the bone and frame to perform without breaking down and build the strength needed to do what they were bred to do. And they need to have a mind to learn.
This season IHB has a large range of new dressage stallions to offer. From Celle there is Heinrich Heine (Hochadel x Rubinstein 1), Sir Donnerhall 11 (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall), a full brother to PSI’s famous breeding stallion, and Soliman De Hus (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall) who is already a well respected sire of outstanding progeny. From Paul Schockemoehle International comes Breitling W (Bismarck x Maat 1), who is a FN breeding index leader, Grand Prix winner and an exceptional breeding stallion, and Bordeaux (United x Gribaldi) who was Dutch Champion Stallion 2009 and performance test winner with a priceless pedigree all-round. De Champ (Daddy Cool x Caprimond), Decamerone (Diamond Hit x Sandro Hit), Riccidoff (Riccione x Don Davidoff), Surprice (Sir Donnerhall x Prince Thatch xx) and United (Krack C x Partout) who is also an exceptional Dutch breeding stallion with top international genetics. All these stallions are available for the first time in Australia through frozen AI.
IHB fortunately still has the Dutch dressage champion Jazz who became last year’s breeding index leader and who produces foals of exceptional beauty and movement. It is becoming obvious that currently more of the top Dutch breeding bloodlines are being deliberately combined with German breeding bloodlines by German breeders overseas. The Dutch have always mixed it with the best because the KWPN, the Dutch registering association, from the beginning accepted all breeds.
Popular IHB stallions from past seasons were: Jazz, Furst Romancier, Furstenball, Hotline, Sarkozy, Sir Donnerhall, Sandro Hit, Don Frederico, Brentano 11, Dancier, Furst Nymphenburg, Londonderry, Rostpon, Weltmeyer and Wolkenstein 11.
This season Celle celebrates their 275th year and has produced a large version of their Golden Book with an English insert which features 148 stallions and their progeny with photographs and information. On top of this Celle has produced the first Dvd of their stallions! Contact Glenis for your copy. 2010 PSI and Zuchthof Klatte stallion Dvds also available.
Whether you are aiming to breed a competition horse, or a riding horse for yourself, or for the market, IHB has the bloodlines for every breeder. Breed for Success. Breed with IHB.

Starring at the Sydney CDI – Kalimna Emblem – Champion of the Four Year olds with John Thompson.
The Kalimna Stud has been going for 22 years now and the aim right from the start, according to Heather Adcock that was “to breed superior dressage horses for the sport, with the movement, temperament and rideability to excel.”
“We started with our own stallion, Oakdean Domaneur who was by Herr Dominator a son of the imported Hanoverian, Domherr, and when he died, I continued on with his daughters, and then crossed them back to frozen semen, or other good imported horses available in Australia. I’ve used a lot of Hanoverian blood, but I’ve also used a lot of the stallions at PSI – I’ve had foals by Sir Donnerhall, Samarant, San Rubin I, Daddy Cool, Hot Line and a Royal Hit that I bred by frozen semen that’s four years old, will be campaigned by John Thompson next year at the five year old class at Dressage with the Stars.”
“Recently we imported Legend of Loxley from Germany. We traveled right through Holland and Germany, and the director of the Rhineland stud-book showed us the best stallion. He was at FS Stud, which is the home of Lord Loxley. We liked him straight away, he’s got a super temperament, has fantastic paces and is very trainable. He was sent straight off to be trained at US Grand Prix rider Catherine Haddad’s stables at Vechta. You can see it on my face book pages, she says he was one of the nicest young horses to come through her stables.”
The young stallion went successfully through the licensing, before he arrived in Australia in January 2010. “He was released from quarantine in February and then Ben Conn’s breaker from New Zealand, Jeff Hill, was over and he finished off the breaking in process. After the two weeks in Germany he was doing walk, trot and canter, but he needed a little more work because in Germany it was all indoors due to the heavy snow outside.”
“He’s quite a forward horse. He’s not a dopey ‘dumblood’, he’s quite sensitive and also shows very good potential for jumping. The plan is for him to be campaigned for next year’s four year old class at DJWTS, and also the Sydney young horse championships.”
At Kalimna, there is a whole range of horses for sale – all the way from yearlings to riding age. There is even a Sir Donnerhall 2 year old filly for the really clever buyer…

Sandrel's first foal, out of Everton Classichol / Calypso Classic. Very successful in hand for owner, Sharon Cutting
At Karingal Equestrian Centre, we are excited with the successes of our horses over the past 12 months. Karingal Anastasia took home the Elementary and Medium Championships from last year’s Australian National Dressage Championships. Karingal Jamirquai made it to the final of the 4 year old class at the 2010 Sydney CDI, while our stallion, Dornkaart (by Don Primero out of Piroschka x Pik Bube) is now out competing, and qualified for the four year old class.
Our senior stallion, Sandrels (by Sandro Hit out of a Pik Bube mare) has had some time off with illness, but he has started to compete again.
We were also thrilled to host the Hanoverian Classification Tour, and Mare Show last February, and this will become an annual event. At the most recent show, the three fillies we imported from Germany – Daisy (Rascalino / Walt Disney), Donatella (Don Crusador / Carbid) and Samanta (Samarant / Wenzel) were all assessed as elite mare candidates by Dr Ludwig Christmann.
Our centre is situated at picturesque Mangrove Mountain, and we offer a full range of services including: Agistment, Riding lessons, Accommodation and facilities hire, EA NCAS Instructor’s Courses, School Holiday Camps, Schooling and competition preparation, and of course, the breeding programme, and horses for sale. Our facilities are also much in demand for corporate functions, weddings, etc. We are very happy for our clients to come and stay with their horses to take part in our activities.
Karen and Martin’s aim is to import & breed horses that combine friendly natures with elite competition abilities – horses that are friends as well as winners.

Let's Shine - Let's Kiss N Tell's first foal - and he's a stunner
Lets Performance horses is based at Williamtown NSW, just five minutes from Newcastle airport on a 30 acre property owned by Lizzie Wilson Fellows, and her husband Graeme. Lizzie was previously from the UK having trained for two years under the guidance of Jennie Loriston-Clarke and during this time obtained her British Horse Society Intermediate Instructors certificate and her National Pony Society Stud Assistants Diploma.
We specialize in producing young horses for competition from breaking in through to FEI level and also producing clients’ horses for sale. We have an all weather rubber arena and brand new stable complex. All the fencing is either piped yards or plain wire fencing with electric stand offs.
We also have Lets Kiss N Tell standing at stud currently and aim to produce really well moving good looking horses with the wow factor but most importantly with a great temperament, so they can be ridden by a professional or an amateur owner. We only breed two to three foals per season with the aim of keeping them through to breaking in age and then producing them under saddle and being sold on. So far most have been sold well before this, usually being snapped up as foals. We take great delight in foaling down the mares and nurturing the progeny through to riding age and we produce young horses for many different owners. This year at DWTS 2010 all three of our young horses finished in the top 8 and a client’s horse came 3rd in the Prix St George Cup - showing we can also produce through to FEI level. We usually have a wide variety of horses available for sale, suiting most riders and enjoy helping people find the horse of their dreams.

This is the type of canter we breed - a colt by Stedinger
After having moved twice in the last three years we are now situated in the lower Hunter Valley, two and a half hours from Sydney, on 136 acres of river flat country and year round green pastures Moving originally from a fully set up (but alas too small) training and breeding facility, we first moved to a big cattle farm out west, and our now back to a more manageable size, with the painstaking task of establishing horse facilities from scratch. We are back in the hub of horsey activities which makes it a lot easier for prospective purchasers to view our youngstock.
Coming from a background of breeding racehorses and riding Thoroughbreds in sport, the move into breeding Warmbloods in the 90’s was a natural progression in the search for superior Sporthorses for dressage and showjumping, from the Thoroughbred to a more purpose bred and streamlined athlete Breeding top athletes for sport begins with quality mares with purpose bred pedigrees, and we believe that the pedigree will tell how far a horse will actually go given the right circumstances of training, nurturing, and the appropriate rider.
We have been refining our mare herd for many years, keeping many of the fillies where possible to ensure a constant building of generation upon generation of performance sport genetics.
Our mare band is based on bloodlines proven at the top level of competition, including Weltmeyer, Jazz, Alabaster, De Niro, Argentinus, Sandro Hit, Royal Hit, Salute, Aachen, Falkland and many others. We believe strongly in the use of good Thoroughbred English staying lines in our mares’ pedigrees, to keep the athleticism in the paces, a good saddle position, and most importantly, a good canter and walk. We also like to use some dual purpose lines, Holstein lines, and jumping genetics to keep the quality of the canter which we believe is all important.
We like our mares to have good riding horse conformation with an uphill build, withers higher than the rump, a good shoulder, strong backs and legs, and have a good swing through the body.
Temperament and trainability are paramount, and mares are carefully paired with stallions to achieve this aim. We want to breed easy willing sound horses that are intelligent and able to take the pressure of intense training and the rigors of top competition. There is no point breeding hot frightened horses that are only good for the professional rider. Horses must be suitable for most levels of rider, then their talent and quality of movements will dictate how far they can go.
We use the best of European frozen semen stallions whose bloodlines are proven at the top level of sport, and who have a proven track record of producing FEI competitors. Our goal is to breed horses of international quality, that move with athleticism and swing through the body, with good trainable temperaments, and to pair them with riders where they can achieve this aim.
Visitors always remark on the nature and friendliness of our foals. They are all carefully raised with good nutrition, and are well handled with good manners so they are a pleasure for their owners
Foals available from last season are a fantastic black Swarovski / Weltmeyer colt, a seriously good Stedinger / Salute colt, and 3 fillies – a Belissimo/ Jazz, a Sir Donnerhall / Alabaster, and a black Rubinero / Aachen filly.
Foals for the 2010 season will be by stallions Stedinger, Fürst Romancier, Lespoir, Swarovksi, Lord Sinclair and Royal Hit.

A new arrival at Makaroff Warmbloods by Worldly
My goal is to create wonderful athletes who enjoy their work and have fulfilling lives just as we wish to. Therefore it’s very important to me that each horse goes to the most compatible thinking rider with the goal of fulfilling both horse, rider and connections, needs and ambitions.
I consider it a responsibility in itself to do endless research and have a total hands on approach with my horses. After some forty years working with and breeding horses I’m more aware than ever how much more there is to learn!
Keeping an open mind with all the new blood-lines and balancing that open mind with my persistence and keen creativity. Keeping a good solid base of the old proven blood lines, especially my brood mare base where I have used jumping lines. I use Argentinus strongly because of his strength in both Dressage and Jumping, his willingness to work and enormous jump in the hind leg shown in the fantastic canter he also passes on to his progeny.
Makaroff Galinka, (Gordost’s second foal) purchased by Georgia Calvert many years ago is a great example of the use of Jumping lines with Georgia’s choice of frozen semen being put over a basically jumping bred mare shows her foresight having successfully produced many frozen semen foals for Dressage bringing good prices. One in particular being Bardot who was mentioned last month in this magazine, having achieved the highest marks for a mare in Australia at the recent ACE tour.
After some twenty years my brood mare herd has evolved with some lovely mares by both my stallions, Gordost and Argenisky and by the crossing of these two pedigrees I am now reaping the benefits. In particular I have bred two Sir Donnerhall foals this year, a liver chestnut filly out of an Argenisky / A line young mare Alexikova and a bay/brown colt born this week out of Gornikova by Gordost who is a full sister to Galinka just mentioned. I’m thrilled with both foals.
Now that I have learnt to do my own AI and I have such a good mare base I’m looking forward to producing many exciting foals in the future.
I would also like to welcome breeders to keep my stallions in mind with regard to enhancing their brood mare lines and I’m very happy to be negotiable in regards to service fees where possible.

New for Narbethong, Don Dancier
Narbethong Equestrian Park is a boutique dressage, breeding and training center located at Bedfordale, Western Australia. We are located on a beautiful Perth hills property endowed with permanent natural spring water, excellent pastures and very good facilities, only 25 minutes from the Perth CBD.
Our goal is to breed Grand Prix and Olympic Quality dressage horses with outstanding trainability and temperament. We also aim to help Australian breeders bridge the gap in the quality of dressage horses produced in Australia compared to those produced in Germany.
As well as breeding a small number of quality foals each year, we offer a range of imported, world class, licensed and proven, modern dressage stallions to suit the needs of dressage breeders Australia wide.
Standing at Narbethong for the 2010-11 season will be our current stallions Royal Oak II imp (Royal Olymp-Welt Hit II-Dornpfad xx), Bellario imp (Belissimo M-Wolkenstein-Pik Konig) and Cheval de Luxe imp (FS Champion de Luxe-Dressman I-Nazim), with my newest addition the very handsome black three year old, Licensed Premium, Hanoverian stallion Don Dancier (Dancier- Hohenstein- Glorieux) hopefully arriving in October. Don Dancier is currently stationed at Gestuet Sprehe in Germany and is in training for his 70 day stallion Performance test at Prussendorf in July. Don Dancier has been extremely well received by breeders in Germany, France and also the UK!
We believe that success in this business is based upon providing semen of the highest quality, in a no fuss, friendly, reliable, professional and cost effective manner to breeders where-ever they may live. Since the inception of Narbethong Equestrian Park and the arrival of our first imported stallion, we have proven time and time again that this is possible, from the far north of Queensland to the south of Tasmania, we can deliver and you, the breeder, can create your dream.
When selecting a stallion to import to Australia we look for quality, conformation, movement and pedigree. We also consider it our responsibility to firstly ensure that the stallion is fertile and free of any predisposed genetic faults and, two, that the stallion has a good temperament and rideability, thus catering for the amateur rider through to the international Grand Prix rider.
It is most important to us that our horses prove their value with both their performance through competitions and the quality of their offspring. This year two of our stallions Bellario and Royal Oak II attended the 2010 Dressage with the Stars. Bellario was Champion of the 5 year old Young Dressage Horses and Royal Oak II reserve Champion of the 6 year olds. Both stallions received a 9 for rideability from the guest rider. As far as offspring are concerned Royal Oak II and Bellario have progeny in both Germany and Australia while Cheval de Luxe has progeny in Germany and we await the first foals due in Australia this spring. We could not be more delighted with the quality of foals from all stallions.
At Narbethong we are also very willing and equipped to help anyone purchase quality performance horses in Germany. We stay very close to all new and major trends in dressage breeding throughout Europe from the regular visits to Germany, our inspections at all the leading training barns and stallion stations and because of the very experienced, trusted and independent personal connections we have been able to now establish in Germany. It is through these invaluable connections that will allow our stud and its breeding program to remain at the forefront of Warmblood breeding in Australia.

Red Chili, Hannes Brüning, Michael Proctor and Hans-Heinrich Brüning
Oakford Equine Hospital, situated in Oakford, Western Australia, approximately 30 minutes south of Perth, is a multivet pure equine practise providing full veterinary care, including specialised reproductive services. Last year we saw the construction of a brand new purpose built breeding barn ready for the 09-10 season, with an indoor breeding mount, purpose built laboratory, foaling facilities, etc.
Not only providing a personalised service to its clients, Oakford Equine Hospital has branched out and has its own boutique breeding program for dressage and sport horses. Given that most of Europe’s top stallions are available through frozen semen and knowing the importance of the dam line, it was decided to focus on quality mares with exceptional conformation and movement, excellent temperament and rideability, successful in their own right and with depth of pedigree.
In 2009, following numerous trips to Germany, we were extremely fortunate to acquire two elite Hanoverian mares, St.Pr.St. Red Hot Chili (Rotspon/ Calypso II/ Freiherr) and St.Pr.A.Helene (Hochadel/ Londonderry/ Frappant). We await their arrival in spring this year.
Red Hot Chili hardly needs any introduction to Warmblood breeding enthusiasts. A 5yo state premium mare, with an impeccable dam line and an illustrious career. Red Hot Chili along with her two state premium sisters, won the Herwart von der Decken-Prize as best mare family at the Verband’s Central Mare Show, only held every two years, in both 2007 and 2009. Red Hot Chili herself has an impressive mare performance test and is already proving herself as a successful brood mare having had two stunning Fürst Romancier colt foals in Germany, the 2009 foal already a winner at foal shows. Red Hot Chili’s half brother is the licensed stallion Lesodoro (Londonderry/Calypso II) and her full sister St.Pr.St. Red Chili is the dam of the black Hanoverian stallion Hampton, who passed his stallion performance test in Schlieckau as Reserve Champion. Red Hot Chili’s dam, St.Pr.St. Carina, is a full sister to the Hanoverian stallion, Compliment. Red Hot Chili is currently in foal to Bequia (Bellissimo M/Weltmyer) and it is planned that she will arrive in Australia in foal to Sir Donnerhall.
Helene is a 4yo state premium candidate, having completed all the requirements for the state premium award except the birth of a foal and its subsequent registration. Helene has an impressive stud book registration and mare performance test and she won the mare show at Himmelpforten where Dr Werner Schade, the head of the Hanoverian Verband stated (rough translation) “the Hochadel/ Londonderry daughter Helene is one more proof of the fact that Hochadel fits Lauries Crusader bloodlines very well. In the final ring Helene knew how to convince and became winner of this show. Extraordinary in type and expression with supple and elastic movements she impressed audience and judges.” Helene has also had two outings at riding horse ability classes in Germany for two wins, competing against 3 and 4 year olds many of which were elite auction horses. Helene, having qualified at Himmelpforten, finished 4th at the Herwart von der Decken show in 2009. It is planned that Helene will arrive in Australia in foal to Diamond Hit.

Grisham - son of Gribaldi in Australia
Primrose Court are dedicated breeders and producers of sound well conformed competition horses that will go on to excel in all spheres, that are forward thinking, active, athletic performers as well as much loved members of the family
Primrose Court Stud was established in 2004 by Anna Thompson and her partner Ali Pountain, with the arrival of their imported Trakehner W/B stallion Highfield Vivaldi. Anna had a traditional English riding background, working for many top riders, with her main training and focus of stud work and Dressage coming from the world renowned Catherston Stud, home of Jennie Loriston- Clarke and the dynasty of international performance stallions where Anna was a working pupil.
Primrose Court is a working stud and training yard, home to the two resident WB stallions, the imported Trakehner Highfield Vivaldi and the beautiful Australian WB stallion Grisham. A 3rd imported colt is waiting in the wings (St Moritz/Sandro Hit/Bellisimo M)
‘These two stallions carry some of the most important and prolific Trakehner lines of the modern day. Grishams’ sire being the extraordinary German bred Trakehner stallion Gribaldi now deceased and Highfield Vivaldi’s line going back to greats such as Donauwind, sire of the Gold medalist Showjumping stallion Abdullah, and Dr Reiner Klimke's Fabian, to name but a few. Both stallions combine Showjumping and Dressage lines and we feel this is such a huge benefit when it comes to producing easy trainable progeny that can turn their hand at anything. H.Vivaldi also combines stud duties (natural and chilled service) with a busy competition career most seasons.
Anna holds firm belief that all their horses including the stallions should be able to do both…’and ours do’ although my main interest is in Dressage.
“Our aims for the stud is to produce a small number of international quality foals each year, using the best and most proven of both Australian and European bloodlines with many of our foals carrying high % of Trakehner breeding. As a breed the Trakehner is fast becoming the choosen Warmblood of the 21st century for a number of reasons. Their athletisim, cleverness to learn and abilty to lighten and inject some much needed power and presence has proved to be an ideal combination for producing horses that can easily answer the increasingly difficult challenges that modern day competition holds.”
“We have a solid broodmare base with our main objectives to keep breeding onwards and upwards striving to produce better each season. It’s a time consuming operation as any good breeder will know!”
“Foals are usually sold before weaning so we are yet to break in any of our own. The first crop of H.Vivaldi’s foals have just started under saddle and we’ve had glowing reports of how easy they are. The others are still taking the breed shows by storm and cleaning up in most instances. Many clients are repeat customers with some on their 4th foals this year! This clearly speaks for itself.”

Remi Lord of the Dance (Lasuries As / Court Musician xx) bred & owned by Cheryl O'Brien
Remi Stud has been the home of internationally bred Hanoverians for nearly 20 years, but a new dimension has been added to our business with the purchase of two wonderful Hanoverian stallions from Germany. In 2005 we were delighted to have purchased the sensational Hanoverian stallion, Fishermans Friend (Fabriano/Penny Lane by Pik Solo/Pik Bube I), a beautiful dark brown, 169 cm stallion. Fish needs no introduction in Australia now, having been selected on the international FN Index for the Top 5% of Dressage Stallions in his first year of breeding. This breed ranking is an indicator for performance heritability of a sire. Fish has a very strong chance of passing on his excellent genetics with respect to conformation, movement and rideability/trainability under saddle. This has shown to be correct, as with only four breeding seasons in Australia now, he has already produced the Champion Hanoverian Foal in Australia in 2006, 2007 and 2009 and his progeny are now out winning under saddle.
Fish has also sired multiple winners internationally in both dressage and jumping, such as Finja, the Spanish National 5 y/o and 6 y/o Young Horse Champion in 2007 and 2008; First Fisherman, now successfully competing at Prix St George dressage; and Fair Play, top priced showjumper at the Hanoverian Auction. Together with his rider, Tor Van Den Berge, Fish was awarded Australian Inter II dressage Champion 2009, (photo) and is now successfully competing at Grand Prix with several wins to their credit. Fish was also awarded EFA (Qld) FEI Horse of the Year 2009. The aim is now London Olympics in 2012 and they are well on their way to achieving this goal!!
To follow on from the wonderful success of Fish, we purchased another Hanoverian stallion from Germany at the Hanoverian Elite Auction 2008. Lauries As (Ace) (Londonderry/St Pr St. Pik Lady by Pik Bube I) is 8 years old, black, 17hh, and has already won multiple competitions in Germany. He qualified for the Bundeschampionate in 2007 and 2008 and has already commenced an exciting dressage career in Australia. Together with his rider, Tor Van den Berge, they finished their first competition season by winning NSW Elementary and Medium Champion 2009, Qld Elementary and Res Medium Champion 2009, HHSA Elementary and Medium Horse of the Year 2009, and the EFA (Qld) Elementary and Medium Horse of the Year 2009. Not only is Ace proving to be a superstar in the dressage arena, but his first foals were born this year and are simply stunning! Four of the Top 10 Hanoverian foals in Australia awarded by the German Classifier, Dr Ludwig Christmann from the Hanoverian Verband, were sired by Ace, including the Champion Foal – Remi Lord of the Dance (Lauries As/Court Musician xx). (photo)
At Remi Stud we believe in our young mares going under saddle prior to having a foal, so all our mares are trained for the Hanoverian Mare Performance Test at the age of three years before going out to mature and have their foals. The Performance Test is a valuable tool which enables us, the breeder, to select a suitable stallion for the mare based on her results both under saddle and during classification. We breed for temperament and have been fortunate in breeding the Australian Champion of the Mare Performance Tests for the past 7 years. The strict selection criteria used at Remi Stud is what results in producing such exciting internationally bred Hanoverians. With our wonderful stallions, Fishermans Friend (imp) and Lauries As (imp), we look ahead to 2010 with much anticipation. Visitors are always welcome by appointment.

Revelwood Raffles (Riverside x World Class) ET foal
Over the past 12 months many Revelwood horses have made the step into the dressage arena - all with huge success! Many can now be seen competing in Young Horse Classes- Frangellica, Donatello, Freddo, Jukebox, Jackpot, Contiki and Caprioska. Revelwood Florentine was the highest scoring mare at the HHAA Mare Performace test in NSW, scoring a massive 9.5 for rideability. At only three years of age, she is one to watch out for in the future!
The Revelwood breeding program has also had much success in 2009 with the arrival of many super embryo transfer and frozen semen foals. Revelwood Raffles (Riverside x World Class) looks to be following in her parents winning footsteps by claiming the Champion foal award at the NSW Hanoverian Show. The Riverside foals impress all with their stunning types, good characters and outstanding movement.
Riverside (Reggazoni x Donnerhall) progeny are also continuing their success in Germany proving they are popular sporthorses in the competition and auction arenas.
Smash Hit (Sandro Hit x Rosenkavalier) has had a very successful season with rider Gina Montgomery in the saddle. From winning Supreme Champion Warmblood at both the NSW AWHA Gala Day and Melbourne Summer Royal to Champion Sporthorse at Canberra Royal, his show record could not be more impressive.
Smash Hit has also been competing successfully in Young Horse classes and Elementary dressage. He wowed the crowd at the Heike Kemmer clinic at Boneo Park and loves the limelight.
2010 looks like an exciting season at Revelwood with new Grand Prix stallion D'Dur (Donnerhall x Landadel) joining the team. He comes from a very strong mother line with his dam C'Dur winning the Champion Mare of Germany. D'Dur shows high rideability that is typical of both the Donnerhall and Landadel breeding.
Ferrero Rocher (Florestan x Weltmeyer) will stand the 2010 breeding season through Revelwood. He is now a seasoned campaigner at FEI level and has been very successful with rider Nick Fyffe. Ferrero Rocher progeny are now of competition age and are already winning!
Frozen semen from Lord of Loxley (Lord Sinclair x Landadel), a stallion recently purchased by Clyde Wunderwald, will soon be available. He is one of the most exciting up and coming FEI horses and will hit the International scene very soon! He is often the crowd favourite amongst ‘big name stallions’ at stallion shows in Holland and Germany.
It's not just the stallions that we've selected to enhance our breeding program. Our broodmare band is second to none with a number of German bred mares including the winner of the Champion Hanoverian on Tour 2008 and 2010, World Class (Worldly x Matcho), Daylite (Donnerschwee x Sandro Hit), Lara (Lanthan x Donnerhall), Donna Prima (Donnerhall x Pik Bube) plus our own bred mares Destiny (Depardieu x Lanthan), Liberty (Locksley II x Gymnastik Star) Melodie (Magritte 780 x His Highness) and the spectacular young mare Florentine (Ferrero Rocher x Donnerhall).
Next season we are expecting some exciting foals by our own stallions as well as Diamond Hit, Wie Weltmeyer, Scolari, Ampere and Wynton.
Revelwood is a diverse enterprise offering an in-house vet service, an established training and sales system and a successful breeding program resulting in a number of international sales. For a complete list of products and services please visit our website at www.revelwood.com.au.

Franjipani - by Fiji out of a Regardez Moi mare - Ryans' bloodlines (Photo - Peter Stoop)
The two front-running stallions standing at Ryans are Regardez Moi (imp) and Jive Magic (imp). Right at the time of writing, May 2010, these two stallions are the two top Grand Prix stallions in Australia. Both stallions are in great shape and are currently focused up on making the Australian Team for the World Equestrian Games in September/October this year, 2010, to be held in the USA.
Regardez Moi had a monster year last year, he was the reigning Australian Grand Prix Champion 2008-2009 and capped it all off representing Australia at the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas USA. Regardez Moi has a sensational interpretation of piaffe and passage and can produce the transition between these two movements like a metronome, just beautiful. This is a very rare talent for any horse anywhere in the world. This year Regardez Moi hopes to make the Australian Team for the World Equestrian Games.
Jive Magic on the other hand moved in to Grand Prix at the end of last year 2009 and instantly made his presence felt, winning at Grand Prix level, beating most of the elite listed horses and being one of the few horses in Australia to qualify for the World Equestrian Games. Jive Magic has been described on numerous occasions as being the most powerful dressage horse in Australia.
Quietly coming up through the ranks behind these two "Titans" is the young stallion Fiji R (imp). He is a little smaller, being 16.1hh, very beautiful to look at and has paces to die for. Fiji R is the quietest stallion ever and started his career with Brianna Tillitzki who at 18 years of age developed a great partnership with Fiji R and basically cleaned-up baby dressage competitions both in the Newcastle area and the Sydney area; some of his scores are in excess of 75%. Still, Fiji R lives in the enormous shadows of his mega-star stablemates, Regardez Moi and Jive Magic and so does tend to be a little bit of a secret. The first of Fiji R's progeny are now yearlings and have created enormous interest in the dressage world, some of his youngsters have already topped the auctions.
Video footage of these three stallions can be viewed at www.ryanshorses.com.au
At Ryans we have 50 broodmares in full production and every one of them is purpose-bred to produce state-of-the-art piaffe, passage, Grand Prix Superstar dressage offspring. Our focus is majorly different to most studs in that we promote the statistic that only 6% of all horses have a full Grand Prix vocabulary. That is that most horses do not have a full complement of what we call the ends of the spectrum. Most horses do not piaffe, most horses do not passage, most horses will not do one-time changes and most horses struggle with canter pirouette. These are not movements that can be developed with good training as was traditionally thought. Australians in general have not yet come to terms with this consideration. Show-jumping however is similar in that a horse is born either careful or not. A show-jumper may have great technique, may have great scope and a great work ethic however if he is born just a little careless he will always be a little careless and have rails down no matter how well he is trained. This show-jumping characteristic of being born careful or not is something that Australians do now understand. Well dressage is similar in that the horse is either born with talents for piaffe and passage or they are not. Simple. Genetically these qualities/characteristics have a 30% inheritability. So if the sire has a history of performing Grand Prix and the dam has a history of performing Grand Prix then you arguably have an offspring with a 60% chance of performing Grand Prix. At Ryans the broodmares not only subscribe to this 60% factor but also carry Grand Prix bloodlines at the Grandparent level. At Ryans we would argue that youngstock produced here are more likely to perform at the top than from any other breeding program in Australia and indeed we would like to think we are at the cutting edge Internationally. The bloodlines around which the stud has been founded represent most of the classical bloodlines found in the top grand Prix horses the world over. These include: Jazz, Landadel, Cocktail, Aktion, Rubinstein, Romador II, Angelo, Donnerhall, Consul, Florestan, Florencio, Weltmeyer, Pik Bube, Hohenstein, Hill Hawk, Salute, May Sheriff, Dutch Courage, Ferro, Flemingh, Silvano, Dutch Gold and soon some Moorlands Totillas babies.
This is a breeding program that has been in operation for some thirty years and is one of the few breeding programs in the world where the principals are Olympic and International riders in Heath and Rozzie Ryan.

SS Sonata Hit - winning all the young horse classes
Saffron Stables was established in 1999. We aim to breed rewarding dressage partners, that are both horses that can achieve great success in the competition arena, but are also pleasant partners that are fun to ride and own and live with. They all have to have rideable temperaments and they all have to have basic training, which includes foal handling from the day they are born.
The aim is that they are handled as youngsters so that they are effortless to break in, they already know the program. The key thing is that we are using imported German mares, and using elite local stallions, as well as frozen semen to improve the quality of horses for Australians, and to make them affordable – especially compared to the cost of importing horses from Germany.
One thing that I recommend to clients is that they consider buying one of mine unbroken and then selecting a trainer – like Matthew Dowsley or Rodney Martin – to put a year’s work into them, which is about the cost of transporting one from Europe to Australian, so that you end up with a fabulous basic product that you can move on with and enjoy throughout their career.

Southern Stars Dressage breeding originated with a quest to provide quality mounts of a specific type for one of the stud principals, Tanase Peckham to train and campaign in the field of Dressage. Strongly encouraged by Heath and Rozzie Ryan, the stud commenced when the first brood mare, Olympia (Medallion/Don Ramiro/ Salute), was acquired ten years ago.
The stud aim has never been to mass breed large numbers of foals, but to produce a small number of quality young horses which are capable of achieving Grand Prix Dressage given a willing partner and the correct training opportunities. However, we recognize that not all riders aspire to the dizzy FEI heights and so aim primarily for well balanced horses that can also be capable of partnering the novice rider with success. We are committed to breeding the equine baby sound of both mind and limb and packaged in an attractive, well conformed body.
Our young horses are bred and raised with diligence and love. A structured care and feeding regime is followed with only the best interests of the horse at heart. Not only do our horses have to perform in the arena, but they are expected to be real horses and do things like muster cattle on occasion.
The breeding program utilizes a small band of broodmares, which are now moving into the second generation. To date, the bloodlines of Falkland 11, Medallion, Kaptain, Salute as well as a dilution of Thoroughbred have been utilized as a starting point for our line. Ever evolving, the broodmare base is in a state of change as the shift towards Hanovarian breeding commences
We utilise a combination of stallions specifically selected to suit and complement the individual mare. Frozen semen provides access to some of the world’s genetic equine wonders. Foals from the re-known sires Sandro Hit, Diamond Hit and Worldly as well as the Australian based stallions Regardez Moi and Jive Magic have graced the paddocks at SSD.
Situated on 160 undulating coastal acres near the NSW holiday destinations of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest, the stud is ideally located a mere 30 minutes from Newcastle airport and poised on the fringe of Australia’s equestrian heartland, the Hunter Valley.
As breeders, trainers and producers of dressage mounts we offer the opportunity to purchase foals, youngsters and going horses you can be assured have had the best start in life. We are very happy to discuss your individual needs and work with you to acquire your new equine partner.

Our horses are our friends at Swing Time
Swing Time Performance Horses is a family run business; our focus is to breed versatile horses that are RIDABLE and TRAINABLE for the disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping or Eventing. The stud was originally established on a cattle property west of Mundubbera with the purchase of Jaybee Calibre as an 8 month old colt from John and Bev Edwards.
We are now established at Swing Time, and located between Gympie and Maryborough QLD, 3km west of the Bruce HWY. Here the stallions and riding horses reside all year round, with the mares and resulting foals moving in over the breeding season. We made the very exciting purchase of our new property Bajest, at the start of 2010, it is located 25 min west of Swing Time and is comprised of 1200 acres of steep hilly country, valley flats and numerous fresh water springs.
Bajest accommodates our brood mares and young stock. It gives our young stock the freedom to grow out in a natural environment where they run in a herd over about 300 acres of varying terrain. They are handled, tied up, wormed and have their feet trimmed every 6 weeks and in between times are checked regularly. We believe this environment gives our babies a very trainable brain when they are started under saddle as they have never been over handled and they understand how to be ‘horses’. Living in the condition they do, also gives them natural muscle development, great hoof development and super co-ordination.
We stand two stallions: Jaybee Calibre (Carbine, Aachemides) and Swing Time My Cosmo (Cassanova, Lander). The two stallions are like chalk and cheese in many ways, which gives us a diverse selection of progeny for you to choose from. They share the heritable characteristics of a great temperament, trainable attitude and movement which are of premier importance in our breeding program. Specifically Calibre marks his progeny with a very athletic, elegant, TB looking body type, great quiet trainable nature, super super canter and height. Cosmo first and foremost marks his progeny with his amazing amazing temperament and trainable nature, he also passes on fantastic legs and feet, gives his foals a very athletic strong body type and three very correct paces.
Our mare band is comprised of WB mares, WB TB crosses, Stock horses, Stock horse WB crosses and a Stock horse pony cross! Some of the breeding includes, Aythorpe xx, Rivoli Ray (Stockhorse), Lander (IMP), Northern Ty Cardin, Centure Gladiator and Athletico (IMP FS). Each year we breed to our own stallions and breed a few select mares to complementing outside stallions with the aim to breed future broodmares for either Dressage or Showjumping, if the resulting foal is a colt than it becomes a very purpose breed competition prospect for some lucky person to purchase! In the past we have used Donnerblitz (filly retained for stud), Cool Cat xx (filly retained for stud), Vivant (Colt foal – Sold as a Gelding under saddle to a wonderful Jumping/Hacking young rider home), Camelot Ego Z (Colt foal 09 – For Sale) and Centure Gladiator (Colt foal – sold as a Gelding under saddle to a lovely amateur lady rider as an Eventer/SJumper/Dressage horse, and Filly foal – retained to stud).
As you can imagine we breed some lovely all rounders that would excel in whichever discipline you like to pursue but we also aim to breed a couple of foals each year that would make either a pure Dressage horse or a pure Showjumper.
The stallions both compete but in the past few years this has been limited due to the commitments of developing both the properties. At the time of writing, Calibre is competing Novice training Elementary and Cosmo is competing Elementary training Medium. Please go to our website www.swingtimehorses.com.au for more detailed information on the stallion’s competition results, photos, horses for sale, progeny and brood mares. We look forward to meeting you and breeding your next super star! Cheers Sandra.

Cordyte - impeccable bloodlines...
Situated in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, Vivace Warmblood Stud produces a small number of quality progeny each season, and is home to the young sire Cordyte. Compact, near black and currently 16.2hh, Cordyte presents the opportunity to create bright-minded, lighter built performance horses without having to compromise on impression and structure.
Cordyte was selected as a sire based on his naturally elevated and elastic quality gaits – his uphill, ground covering canter being a highlight - superb compact conformation with ample bone structure, his inquisitive yet gentle character, and the depth of international elite performance woven together to form his spotless pedigree.
His ancestors not only competed successfully at international level Dressage and Showjumping - they passed on generation after generation their own qualities which made them great performers, producing numerous Premium Licensed sons and State Premium mares.
Cordyte is one of a very select few stallions world wide to carry Cor de la Bryère four times in his sire line! Such potent line-breeding to one of the greatest stallions of all time (influencing not only the Holstein Studbooks, but also the Hannoverian), creates a genetic masterpiece with the strength of pedigree for Cordyte to stamp his progeny as his own.
Place this potent C-line over the top of one of the most heralded mare lines in Warmblood breeding history – the Ramiro Z dam line – which is also responsible for the magnificent producer El. St. Loretta (dam of World Dressage Champion, Sandro Hit, and Reserve World Dressage Champion, Diamond Hit), and you create a pedigree equal to the best of international breeding, ensuring quality and consistency – Cordyte.
Cordyte’s progeny reliably carry their Sire’s superb easy going character, excellent structure, deep shoulders, compact strength, stunning good looks and quality movement – and from quite different types of mares. The 2009 Cordyte Foal Crop has been nothing less than impressive - many will be retained by Vivace for future competition and breeding stock.
The upcoming season will see our first Embryo Transfer progeny to frozen semen out of mares closely related to Cordyte. 2010 will see progeny carrying Florencio (West), Donnerhall (Han), Coriander (HLP), Rocadero (Hol), Capone (Old) and Aachen (Old).
Vivace also welcomes two stunning younger colts, waiting to make their debuts in coming seasons. Visit www.vivace-dressage.com.au for updates on our Breeding Program and Competition Stables.

Waterview- top bloodlines on offer - Wynton by Jazz. Eurodressage pic
This year is set to become one of the most exciting breeding seasons ever. Our focus has been to maintain a level of consistency in providing breeders with stallions who produce an impressive foundation. This has been set. We’re into the next phase! Many of our breeders are producing foals with two or three generations of frozen semen that are really starting to have a major impact on the competition scene. Looking through the current Sydney CDI Program is a timely reminder that we are embarking on a super journey.
I had a laugh as Brett Parbery and I were talking about a number of topics such as bloodlines, breed societies, young horse classes, Germany vs Holland (and the list goes on) until I just about spat out my drink when hearing the next grand statement to fly out of his mouth; “Dave, think about it; we should be able to breed better horses than you find in Germany or Holland”. My mind is staring to think that this mate of mine is heading down the road of insanity! We’re always looking to the Europeans in order to enhance our sport – whether it be training, riding or breeding. According to the World Rankings, Dressage and Breeding is done better in Europe! So where does this random comment stem from? “The Dutch breed with primarily Dutch bred/branded/accepted horses. The Hanoverians breed with Hanoverian bred/branded/accepted horses, the Oldenburgs (you get the picture). We’re in a position in Australia where we can combine whatever bloodline fits our program. We can add a little Dutch to our German mares, and a little German to our Dutch mares. We could really use this to our advantage.”
I attempted not to make impolite noises or gestures as Brett finishes up. Does he have a point? Initially I thought it was pretty amusing but subsequently having deliberated for some time I am starting to think he’s on to something! Maybe this is something we should think about?
Now… to the stallions!
From Holland this year we have some exceptional young stallions including the young FEI star Wynton (Jazz x Matador). Wynton is a tall, black son of Jazz who is simply breathtaking. His dominating run throughout Holland is impressive having won his 70 days test, the Pavo cup, and also as a finalist at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden.
Also, there is Ampere – the electric moving son of Rousseau x Flemmingh who is producing impressive foals from his first two seasons in Holland and Germany. His basic gates are awe-inspiring as is his attitude to work. This stallion has absolute stardom written through his pedigree with relatives such as Ferro, Lingh and Krack C. He was the undisputed winner of his licensing in Holland with scores of 9 for trot, work ethic, talent for dressage, suppleness, and 9.5 for canter!
Now for the Germans - Scolari is a young stallion of huge interest. He is by Sandro Hit out of a De Niro x Weltmeyer mare. This tall young stallion hasn’t been produced for stallion shows with ‘auction trot’, rather he’s on the road to be a Grand Prix horse. His foals are breathtaking with scope, long legs, movement and temperament. The foals we have seen have been from a variety of mares and seem to be stamped with a similar quality. Many people who have used Scolari have also re-bred to him which is a huge testament to this stallion’s ability to produce exceptional foals here in Australia.
Belissimo M is a new stallion for us to offer. This dark liver chestnut stallion is proving to be a very valuable out-cross for those horses with lots of Weltmeyer/Donerhall/Rubinstein blood. He is producing very rideable and successful young competition horses with good mechanics and presence.
Desperados has just won the Young Grand Prix class at the Hagen CDI. This is the most prestigious competition for horses ages between 8 and 10 who are just starting Grand Prix. The class was dominated by this striking son of De Niro x Wolkenstein II finishing on a score of 75.4%!
Looking a little left of field we have Chequille Z. This exciting stallion is a true multi-talent! His relatives include the Olympic stallion Silvano N as well as the proven jumping sire Clintino. Chequille has strong Holsteiner foundations through Calypso, Latino and Landgraf. Chequille is now starring at Grand Prix and is being campaigned towards the London Olympics.
Waterview Park has a huge selection of Dutch and German stock in the country from the above stallions along with Diamond Hit, De Niro, Swarovski, Fidertanz, Scandic, Feuerspeil, Riccione, Fuerstenreich, French Kiss, Fuerst Grandios and around 50 other selected sires from the young up and coming to those who reliably produce top class riding horses. Discounts apply for multiple doses purchased.

Woodleigh Romancze - a Champion scoring 9s (Photo- Derek O'Leary)
Woodleigh International was founded in 1995 by Australian Representative and successful FEI dressage rider Sarah Bray. Being a rider, Sarah knows what it takes to breed an International Performance Horse, personally riding the stallions and breeding mares.
The first two foals born at Woodleigh International have already proven themselves time and time again, Woodleigh Aria was champion mare at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1997, then retired to stud. Aria’s foals are in high demand often selling before birth and top scoring for movement at the AWHA Gala days. Woodleigh Don Juan, being a World Cup Showjumper and a Futurity Winner, is also producing progeny of excellence.
Extensive research went into purchasing the foundation mares at Woodleigh, with investigative trips to Europe and around Australia. The emphasis at Woodleigh International has been to procure the best Warmblood mares and keeping the filly foals to ensure a mare pool of world class quality. Grand Prix professionals are sourcing their future champion with the assistance of the team at Woodleigh International.
With the purchase of the carefully selected RAPHAEL, Woodleigh International has gone from strength to strength. Raphael was chosen to compliment the mares and put Woodleigh in direct competition with the Top European studs of today with Woodleigh Renaissance receiving 9’s for trot and being the crowd favorite at the AWHA gala 2009 and Woodleigh Romanze being Champion Foal at the 2010 AWHA Gala ahead of Europe’s best, Florencio, Fürst Romancier, Fidertanz, Hotline and De Niro. Woodleigh Romanze also receiving 9’s for trot and awarded the highest scores of the day. Raphael progeny have the top score for trot at the AWHA gala 2009 and 2010.
Raphael is now being prepared with Grand Prix in mind. Since starting under saddle this sensational stallion has shown his abilities for collection with Piaff and Passage already started showing no resistance. At DWTS Raphael displayed super ridability attracting attention from the International judges. Raphael is the perfect example of a modern warmblood, elegant, athletic, ridable, and unlimited.
This multi awarded stallion is proving to be an outstanding sire and welcome supplement to dressage breeding in Australia, with his naturally light-footed, uphill movements making him a revelation to every dressage lover and is appealing to the most discerning judges. This stunning stallion leaves very little to desire.
It is with great pleasure that the Woodleigh International team welcome you to this exciting stud. With foals due this season of amazing blood (some already booked) and two incredible stallions (RAPHAEL and WOODLEIGH DON JUAN), we offer you the best. Woodleigh International would like to wish you, the breeder and rider, every success in the next year.
